me: so y’know, there’s a jean paul sartre lecture where he argues that when you come to somebody for advice, you’re essentially just using them to externalise your own desires. because when you ask them, you know this person, you know that they’ll either agree with you and validate what you want, or you know they’ll persuade you it’s a bad idea, because you want to be persuaded. so really you should just recognise your own desire for what it is and try to actualise yourself without appealing to these outside legitimations that are really kinda narcissistic to begin with, y’know?
